Baby Elephant Cries For 5 Hours After His Mom Rejected Him

Sadly, there are times where the baby of an animal is rejected and this was the case for Zhuang Zhuang in a Chinese zoo three years ago. However, the staff were not going to let this happen even when the mother seemed intent on killing her child. Since he was so small, he couldn’t defend himself from his mother’s attacks so he had to be removed.

After bringing him back in, he was rejected once more and he had to be kept away from her for good. Sadly, Zhuang Zhuang didn’t understand and cried for hours and this video broke the hearts of millions all around the world. From this video alone, it was clear to see that animals can feel emotional pain. According to a spokesperson from the Shendiaoshan Wild Animal Natural Reserve Area, he cried for around five hours and nobody could console him.

Initially, the signs were good and the two had bonded but then things changed all of a sudden and the zoo had no choice but to separate them. Even though she was trying to kill him, he didn’t want to leave his mother’s side. Although the zoo wouldn’t say it themselves, we believe that the main cause of this is because they are being kept in captivity. If they were in the wild, we aren’t saying that the mother wouldn’t have turned on him but there certainly would have been relatives that would have taken over to help the young mother. Instead, the two have been separated with no real help for either.
